This time, I would like to introduce “Taikanso” from Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture.
It is a hybrid ryokan that combines traditional and modern elements with a touch of Showa-era romance.
The location, charm, rooms, and cuisine are described in this article, so please refer to it.
Location of Taikanso
The “Taikanso” ryokan (Japanese inn) was established in July 1948 and has repeatedly changed with the times.
It is also known as an inn associated with Yokoyama Taikan, a master of Japanese painting, where you can enjoy a different kind of open-air bath and Kyoto-style kaiseki cuisine.
The Shinkansen “Kodama” takes about 50 minutes from Tokyo to Atami.
In the surrounding area, you will find Atami Castle, the Atami Plum Garden, the Secret Treasure House, and Himenosawa Park.
The charm of Taikanso
There are three types of hot springs, including “Sanno-no-yu”, “Taki-no-yu” and “Hinoki-no-yu”, where you can enjoy the elegance of a garden with giant trees over 200 years old that you can experience with all your senses.
You can also enjoy the view of Atami from various locations, such as the footbath with a view, the indoor bath, the private open-air bath, and the hot spring floor.
Especially from the footbath, you can see the clear blue sea and sky unique to Atami during the daytime, and the fantastic night view that spreads out below you at night.
Rooms at Taikanso
The hotel offers a wide variety of plans, including guest rooms with a spectacular view from the top five floors, guest rooms where you can enjoy the natural changes of the day from the hot spring bath in the guest room, and luxurious guest rooms where you can experience the best of modern Japanese living with crafted furniture and Simmons beds.
All of these rooms are fully equipped with facilities, amenities, and loaner items, so you are sure to have a comfortable time.
The cuisine at Taikanso
We propose two types of dining establishments: Hanabuki, a sushi restaurant, and Matsukaan, a teppanyaki restaurant.
Hanafukiyuki is reputed to be the best sushi restaurant in Izu, where you can indulge your taste buds with carefully selected ingredients and exquisite rice nigiri made with the finest craftsmanship.
At Matsuka-an, you can enjoy A4-ranked Japanese black beef and the pride of Izu’s fresh fish, along with a selection of wines.
After filling your stomach with food, why not spend some time relaxing at Starlight, a famous restaurant in Izu where top-notch bartenders serve cocktails, wine, and Western liquors.
